Overview

The Sony FE 16-25mm F2.8 G is a compact, lightweight ultra-wide zoom that trades range for portability and speed. Optically, it delivers excellent center sharpness from f/2.8 and very good borders, but corners soften slightly wide open. Heavy barrel distortion (5.5% at 16mm) and vignetting in RAW require in-camera correction, which works well. Build is solid with weather sealing, smooth controls, and a de-clickable aperture ring; however, the barrel extends when zooming to 16mm. Autofocus is fast and silent via dual linear motors. It suits photographers who already own a 24-70mm zoom and want a lightweight, affordable f/2.8 ultra-wide without overlapping focal lengths.
