The Sigma 200-500mm f/2.8 EX DG is an extreme ultra-telephoto zoom, the only 500mm f/2.8 lens on the market. Its optical strengths include a fast f/2.8 aperture throughout the zoom range and the included 2x teleconverter for 400-1000mm f/5.6. However, it lacks image stabilization and weather sealing. Build quality is excellent, but the lens is enormous at 15.7 kg and requires a heavy-duty support system. Handling is hampered by slow electric zoom and focus, powered by an internal battery. It suits professionals needing extreme reach and speed, but its $24,000 price and impractical size limit its appeal.
