Overview

The Samyang/Rokinon MF 85mm F1.4 II offers very good central sharpness at f/1.4, excellent from f/2 to f/11, with very good edges. Chromatic aberration and distortion are well controlled, bokeh is smooth, and flare is minimal. However, contrast is low, giving a film-like look, and focusing is very hard even with magnification. Build quality is mixed: it has a classic aesthetic with a de-click aperture ring, but weather sealing is only at the mount, making it unsuitable for rain. It suits portrait photographers seeking a classic, less clinically sharp look, but not those needing reliable autofocus or robust weather sealing.
