Overview

The Nikon AF Nikkor 24-85mm f/2.8-4D IF offers a unique compromise between range and speed, with f/2.8 at the wide end. Optically, it is very sharp in the center, but corners are soft at 24mm f/2.8. Distortion is strong barrel at 24mm and pincushion at 85mm. Build quality is decent with extensive plastic use; the zoom ring feels stiff. It has a 72mm plastic filter thread. Autofocus is fast and accurate via screw drive. It suits those wanting a faster standard zoom on a budget, but the newer AF-S version is often preferred.
