14mm · f/2.8
The Nikon AF Nikkor 14mm f/2.8D ED is a solidly built ultra-wide prime with great optics, though it shows heavy vignetting (almost 4 EV at f/2.8) and soft corners wide open. Its screw-drive AF is noisy but reasonably fast, and manual focus is smooth. The lens is heavy at 670g and lacks filter threads, but accepts rear gel filters. It suits FX shooters needing a compact, fast ultra-wide, but the AF-S 14-24mm f/2.8 zoom is sharper and more versatile.
