The Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM is an affordable telephoto zoom with Image Stabilization, allowing handheld shots at two stops slower. Optical quality is mediocre: soft wide open at all focal lengths, with sharpness decreasing toward 300mm and corners softest at 70mm. Build is okay but not excellent, with rough zoom and focus rings. Autofocus is slow, lacking full-time manual override. It suits budget-conscious users needing IS for static subjects in good light, but not for fast action or critical sharpness.
