Overview

The Canon EF 35mm f/2 is a compact, lightweight prime with reasonable build quality and a metal mount. Optically, it offers good center sharpness wide open, but corner sharpness is poor and vignetting is strong at f/2. Bokeh is mediocre, with pentagonal highlights when stopped down due to a 5-blade aperture. Autofocus is noisy but reasonably fast, lacking full-time manual focus. It suits budget-conscious photographers seeking a small, affordable 35mm lens, especially on the used market.
