The Canon EF 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 II is an inexpensive kit lens with low build quality, a plastic mount, and a micro motor that delivers medium-speed autofocus with noticeable noise. Optically, it is soft wide open, especially at 80mm, and requires stopping down for reasonable sharpness; corners are soft at 28mm, barrel distortion is obvious at the wide end, and vignetting is present. It suits beginners aware of its limitations, but may disappoint those expecting better performance.
