Overview

The Minolta AF 200mm f/2.8 APO is a well-regarded legacy lens with excellent resolution across the frame, especially from f/4 to f/5.6 (OpticalLimits). Lateral chromatic aberrations are well controlled, but axial CA (bokeh fringing) is visible at f/2.8 (OpticalLimits). Bokeh is smooth but highlights show outlining and edginess when stopped down (OpticalLimits). Build is all-metal with a clever retracting hood and focus ring cover, though the focus throw is short and manual focusing is difficult. AF is fast but noisy. It suits enthusiasts who value optical quality and are comfortable with manual focus limitations.
