    Overview

The Jupiter-8 50mm f/2 is a Soviet copy of the Zeiss Sonnar, known for its low cost ($30–70) and compact size. Optically, it can deliver beautiful bokeh and good center sharpness when stopped down, but wide-open performance is soft with washed-out colors. Build quality is inconsistent due to poor Soviet QC, and handling issues include a long focus throw and, on later versions, an aperture ring that moves with the focus ring. It suits budget-conscious shooters willing to gamble on sample variation, but better alternatives exist.
