Overview

The Chinon 50 mm f/1.4 Auto MC offers good build quality with a rubberized focus ring and compact size, but is relatively heavy at 245g. Optically, it is soft at f/1.4 but becomes very sharp from f/2 to f/5.6, with early diffraction limiting performance above f/8. Corner sharpness and vignetting control are good on APS-C, and colors are neutral. However, bokeh is harsh and nervous. It suits users seeking a sharp, affordable standard lens for stopped-down use, but not for landscape or those prioritizing smooth bokeh.
