28–200mm · f/3.8–5.6
The Sigma 28-200mm f/3.8-5.6 UC is a compact, well-built super-zoom from the film era, with a solid feel and good manual focus. Optically, it offers very low chromatic aberration and purple fringing, but is notably soft, especially at 200mm, with significant spherical aberration and coma that reduce contrast and create unpleasant bokeh. Flare control is poor, with strong ghosting and veiling. The zoom ring can be stiff, and the minimum focus distance of 1.5m limits close-ups. It suits users seeking a cheap, compact walk-around lens for film or low-resolution digital, but is outperformed by modern kit lenses in sharpness.
