24mm · f/2.8
The Minolta MD VFC 24mm f/2.8 is a rare, sought-after wide-angle lens with a unique Variable Field Curvature (VFC) feature that allows adjusting the plane of focus from flat to convex or concave. Optically, it delivers outstanding sharpness, especially stopped down to f/5.6–f/8, with low aberrations and well-controlled geometry. However, in normal mode, the non-VFC 24mm f/2.8 is sharper, smaller, lighter, and cheaper. Build quality is excellent, with a solid feel. The VFC function is challenging to use effectively. It suits collectors or photographers who need the VFC capability; otherwise, the standard 24mm is more practical.
