The Takumar 28mm f/2.8 Bayonet is a budget K-mount lens optically identical to the SMC Pentax-M/A 28mm but lacking multi-coating, making it prone to flare and ghosting. It is sharp from f/4 onward, with usable wide-open performance and minimal chromatic aberration. Build quality is decent but slightly below SMC-M lenses, with a simpler finish. It produces attractive sunstars and interesting bokeh, including swirly effects. Best for photographers seeking character over technical perfection, especially on APS-C or film.
