    Overview

    The SMC Pentax-M 50mm f/1.7 is a compact, all-metal manual-focus lens with smooth focus and positive aperture clicks. It is extremely sharp from f/2.8 onward, but wide open at f/1.7 it shows softness, coma, and corner darkening. Stopping down to f/2 yields a huge improvement. It has no visible distortion. Build quality is solid, though the focus ring grip may loosen over time.
