Overview

The Industar-50 50mm f/3.5 is a compact Soviet pancake lens based on the Zeiss Tessar design. On full-frame digital, it suffers from severe flaring, vignetting, and soft corners, though center sharpness and contrast are excellent. On APS-C, vignetting and corner softness largely disappear, leaving only flaring. Build is sturdy metal with plastic grips, but the clickless aperture and tiny size can challenge large hands. It performs best on film cameras, where it delivers a strong vintage character. Suits users seeking a cheap, characterful lens for APS-C or film, but not for critical full-frame digital work.
