The SMC Pentax 17mm f/4 Fish-Eye is a compact, well-built pancake lens with smooth focus and built-in color filters. Optically, it is soft at f/4 but sharpens from f/5.6 to f/22, with good color and contrast. It exhibits flare when shooting into the sun, and the exposed front element is vulnerable to scratches. Best suited for creative, fun use on APS-C or full-frame, where its fisheye effect is reduced on crop sensors.
