    The Leitz Elcan-R 180 mm f/3.4 (also known as Leica APO-Telyt-R 180mm f/3.4) is a compact, well-built lens originally designed for military use and optimized for infinity focus. Optically, it delivers excellent sharpness across the frame with only slight corner softness wide open, minimal lateral chromatic aberration, and virtually no longitudinal chromatic aberration, fully deserving its apochromatic name. However, 1970s coatings may reduce contrast in backlit scenes. It handles well on mirrorless cameras via adapters and suits users seeking a compact, high-performing telephoto for landscapes or distant subjects, especially on Leica SL or Fuji GFX.
