Overview

The Leitz Wetzlar Elmarit-R 180mm f/2.8 (I) is optically excellent from wide open, with pleasing bokeh and minimal field curvature. It is sharp in the center, though flare and contrast loss can occur against light. Build is rock-solid all-metal, with a smooth focus ring and telescoping hood, but it is heavy (970g) and front-heavy. The long focus throw aids precision but hinders action. It suits photographers who value compact size for its class and superb optics, especially on mirrorless with IBIS, and who can manage the weight and manual focus.
