Overview

The Takumar Fish-eye 18mm f/11 is a fixed-focus, preset M42 pancake lens with Waterhouse stops (f/11–f/22). Optically, it is not sharp; even at f/11, nothing is sharp, though aberrations are low. At f/16, some central sharpness appears but edges remain blurry; at f/22, a vintage look with 3D pop emerges, but corners stay soft and vignetting can be uneven. Distortion is surprisingly low for its age. Build-wise, it is tiny and can unscrew during aperture changes. It suits photographers seeking dreamy, characterful images rather than technical sharpness, and works best on full-frame.
