    Overview

The Canon EF 100-200mm f/4.5A is an affordable, compact telephoto zoom from 1988, notable for omitting manual focus. It delivers very sharp images at 100mm when stopped to f/5.6, with nice contrast and natural colors, but suffers from chromatic aberration and flare wide open. Build is simplified and lightweight, with an Arc-Form Drive motor providing reasonably fast AF. It suits amateur photographers on a budget for portraits, landscapes, or controlled daylight shooting, but its slow AF and lack of corrective coatings limit its versatility.
