Overview

The Leitz Wetzlar Summicron 50mm f/2 is a compact, all-metal lens with excellent build and handling. Optically, it delivers sharpness across most of the frame at f/2, with some corner softness and purple fringing wide open. Bokeh is generally smooth but can show soap-bubble artifacts. Older versions like the collapsible and rigid have softer coatings and are prone to scratches and haze. The V3 is considered the weakest Summicron but still a strong legacy lens. It suits photographers who value classic rendering and compactness, but modern alternatives offer better value.
