90mm · f/2.5
The Rokunar V-HQ Macro MC 90mm f/2.5 (also sold as Elicar, Vivitar, Tonika) is a heavy, well-built macro lens with a unique focusing system: instead of a focus ring, the barrel is marked in macro ratios (1:20 to 1:1), requiring the user to move the camera back and forth to focus. It does not focus to infinity. Optically, it is very sharp with good color saturation; one source notes it was rated the second-sharpest lens ever tested by Modern Photography, behind only a Zeiss. The stiff barrel movement prevents accidental slippage. Its front-heavy weight makes handheld use challenging, especially outdoors; a tripod is recommended for studio work. It suits macro enthusiasts who prioritize optical quality over convenience and don't need infinity focus.
