The Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 35-135 mm f/3.3-4.5 C/Y is a well-built, large, front-heavy push-pull zoom with smooth, dampened focus and zoom action, though the macro engagement can be rough. Optically, it delivers good color, nice bokeh, and excellent macro quality, but sharpness is not superb, barrel distortion at 35mm is noticeable, and flare can produce orange hexagon ghosts without a hood. The lens is dim at the long end, making focusing in low light challenging. It suits photographers who value Zeiss color and build over ultimate sharpness and speed.
