    Overview

    The Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 70-210 mm f/3.5 C/Y is a heavy (1.2 kg) all-metal zoom with macro capability, built in Germany. Optically, it offers very good sharpness with even corner-to-corner resolution, excellent micro-contrast, and natural bokeh, but central resolution is not the highest. Its successor, the 80-200/4, is sharper with better contrast. It suits users who prioritize micro-contrast and shadow detail over absolute sharpness, especially for film or adapted to digital with a UV filter to reduce purple fringing.
