    Overview

    The Tokina AT-X 242 AF 24-200mm f/3.5-5.6 offers a unique wide-to-telephoto range starting at 24mm. Optically, it is soft and low-contrast wide open with vignetting below f/8, but stopped down to f/8-11 it delivers very good, consistent performance across focal lengths. Build quality is excellent with a chrome-plated brass mount and aluminum/composite barrels, providing a solid feel and smooth handling. However, sample variation is noted, and the lens is heavy. It suits photographers who value range and build over ultimate sharpness and are willing to stop down and post-process.
