The Tokina RMC 28-85mm f/4 is a varifocal zoom from the 1980s, part of Tokina's higher-quality AT-X line. Optically, it offers good sharpness and color contrast when stopped down to f/5.6 or higher, but is soft and flares easily wide open. The macro feature is not very useful. Build and handling are decent: focus is smooth and fast, and the lens works well on crop-sensor cameras, where the effective range becomes 45-136mm, ideal for portraits. It suits budget-conscious photographers willing to accept some optical compromises, especially those using crop-sensor bodies.
