    Overview

The Canon EF 100-300mm f/5.6 L is an ancient lens (1987) with excellent optics for its time, featuring fluorite and UD elements that deliver very good central sharpness and well-controlled chromatic aberration. However, edge sharpness is weaker, especially at 300mm, and distortion and flare can be noticeable. Build quality is mediocre with a push-pull zoom and a noisy, slow AF motor. It suits budget-conscious users seeking L-series image quality on a full-frame or APS-C body, provided they can accept the handling quirks.
