70–220mm · f/4
The Tamron 70-220 mm f/4 Adapt-A-Matic is a superbly-made lens with excellent fit and finish, reflecting Tamron's high-quality ambitions in the late 1960s. However, it is absurdly huge and heavy for its specification, with a tripod mount that underscores its bulk. Optically, performance is at best adequate: it suffers from strong red fringing and is not sharp enough at f/4, though it improves when stopped down. It retains focus reasonably when zooming and has a constant aperture. This lens suits collectors of well-built vintage glass or those who prioritize build over portability and ultimate sharpness.
